TV Answer Man, I’m so confused about which TV operators are having the Super Bowl in 4K. I keep reading different things in different stories. Can you set the record straight on this before the darn game starts! — Tony, Las Vegas.

Tony, I hear you. There is considerable confusion among viewers and, apparently, some journalists regarding which pay TV services and streamers will offer the 2024 Super Bowl in 4K. CBS last month confirmed it will show the game in 4K, but that doesn’t mean everyone can watch it in the format. So let’s offer the definitive guide to who will carry the game in 4K and who won’t.

Who Will Carry the Super Bowl In 4K?

The game, which will be played at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday, February 11, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. ET, will pit the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers. The following pay TV providers have confirmed they will show the game in 4K on special 4K channels: DIRECTV, DIRECTV Stream, Fubo, Optimum TV, Cox Cable, Dish, Comcast, Verizon and YouTube TV. Consult your on-screen guide for channel numbers.

Who Won’t Carry the Super Bowl In 4K?

Paramount Plus, the streaming sister to CBS, will not show the game in 4K. The Paramount Plus stream will be 1080p HD HDR. Charter’s Spectrum TV, which has more video subscribers than any other pay TV operator, will also not show the game in 4K; it will only be HD on Spectrum TV. (Spectrum TV has never offered 4K.) The Super Bowl will also not be in 4K on the CBS ‘TV Anywhere’ app or any other video service.

The game will mark the first time that CBS will offer any NFL game in 4K. (Fox did the Super Bowl in 4K in 2020 and 2023.) A CBS spokesman has confirmed to The TV Answer Man that the 4K feed will be upscaled from a 1080p HD broadcast.

Tony, hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!
