ESPN’s new Unlimited app offers live feeds of all the sports network’s channels as well as games broadcast by ABC. The service, which costs $29.99 a month, also includes an extensive library of on-demand shows including the terrific 30 on 30 series.
But what ESPN does not have is a free trial, unlike its rival, Fox One, the $19.99 a month cord-cutter app which launched on the same day (August 21, 2025) as ESPN. Fox One has a seven-day free trial which is a great way to check out the streamer before deciding to order.
However, what if I told you that there is a back door way to get a free trial to ESPN?
DIRECTV’s MySports genre streaming plan, which offers more than 20 national sports channels and networks for $69.99 a month, includes free and full access to the ESPN Unlimited app using your DIRECTV user name and password.
But even better, DIRECTV’s MySports plan has a 5-day free trial for new users during which you get access to the entire MySports lineup including ESPN Unlimited. You could sign up today and watch the big conference championship games on ESPN Unlimited, including Indiana vs. Ohio State, without paying a dime.
Of course, you might want to stay with the plan. DIRECTV is now running a deal where you can get MySports for $59.99 a month for the first two months. But if you just want to watch some ESPN sports for free, here’s your chance. Just be sure to cancel prior to the end of the five days or you will be billed for the first month.
