Will YouTube TV Raise Prices After the New Fox Deal?

TV Answer Man, do you think YouTube TV will raise prices now that it has a new deal with Fox that will probably cost them a pretty penny! – Steve, Fairfax, Virginia.

Steve, YouTube TV and Fox announced last night that they have signed a new carriage agreement that will keep Fox’s programming in the streamer’s lineup for an unspecified number of years.

Companies don’t reveal the financial terms of these deals but you can bet that YouTube TV’s carriage payments to Fox will be significantly higher in the years to come. Fox, which has such must-view channels as FS1 and the local Fox affiliate, and, must view to some conservative viewers, the Fox News Channel, can command top rates for its programming.

YouTube TV last announced a price increase last December when it bumped its $72.99 a month plan to $82.99 a month. Since it hasn’t been a full year since that rate hike, my guess is that you won’t see a new price increase until later this year. But I think it’s inevitable that YouTube TV will raise prices before the calendar year is over. Otherwise, the Fox payments will start to cut in the streamer’s profits.

How much will it raise prices?

Probably somewhere between $5 and $10 a month. I would bet on a $7 increase which would keep the base plan under $90 a month, albeit by just a penny.

Steve, I hope that answers your question. Happy viewing and stay safe!
