TV Answer Man, DIRECTV now has a different pricing arrangement for its streaming plans so which one is cheaper for regional sports channels – Fubo or DIRECTV streaming? – Tim, Marshall, Texas.
Tim, DIRECTV on Sunday set the price of its cheapest plan (Choice) with regional sports networks (RSNs) at $89.99 a month. However, as I reported in today’s article, the plan is actually $107.98 a month if you use your own streaming device because there’s a RSN fee as high as $17.99 a month. And if you use DIRECTV’s Gemini air streaming device, the price is $117.98 a month because that device includes an added $10 a month fee. The new pricing structure has sports fans wondering which streaming service is better – Fubo or DIRECTV streaming? The two companies carry the most RSNs among live streaming services but which one is cheaper?
DIRECTV vs. Fubo: Which Streamer is Cheaper For RSNs?
Fubo, the multi-channel live streaming service, last January raised the price of its English-speaking packages by $5 a month each. That means the regular rate for Fubo’s Pro plan, the cheapest plan it offers with regional sports networks (RSNs) included, is now $84.99 a month. But is Fubo’s Pro still less expensive than DIRECTV’s Choice via streaming?
Answer: Yes. But the difference has narrowed.
Fubo’s Pro plan is $84.99 a month but there also is a regional sports fee that could be as high as $15.99 a month in some markets. That means that Pro will set you back $100 a month, not including taxes. (Note that DIRECTV is now offering $10 off while Fubo is now offering $30 off the first month.)
Why DIRECTV’s Price Is Better Than Before
DIRECTV’s cheapest streaming plan – the one with your own device – is now $107.99 a month. So it’s still roughly $8 a month more than Fubo’s Pro. That’s not a huge amount of money, but over a year, it would come to $96.
DIRECTV Stream, the brand that DIRECTV eliminated on Sunday, used to charge $114.99 for the Choice plan. So that’s why I say the difference has narrowed.

Fubo Doesn’t Have Every RSN That DIRECTV Does
One more thing to consider: Fubo does not have some of the RSNs available on DIRECTV Stream, including Spectrum SportsNet LA (LA Dodgers) and Monumental Sports (Washington Wizards, Capitals). So before subscribing, make sure your RSN is included in your market. You can see which RSNs are available in your market on DIRECTV by clicking here. And you can see which RSNs are available in your market on Fubo by clicking here.
Tim, hope that answers your question. Happy viewing and stay safe.
