TV Answer Man, any suggestions on how to watch March Madness if you are a cord cutter who doesn’t want to spend much money. – Terrell, Boulder, Colorado.

Terrell, March Madness, the annual men’s college basketball tournament, tips off next week with the ‘First Four’ round on March 18 and 19. The TV coverage of the entire tournament will be split between CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV. That may sound like it would be difficult to stream all the action, but actually it’s fairly easy and can be done for less than $10.

How to Watch March Madness For $9.99
Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, will stream all the TBS, TNT and truTV games (and in 1080p HD Dolby Vision). The Max base plan, which includes live sports from the three aforementioned Turner networks, is only $9.99 a month.  (Note that Max will remove live sports from the $9.99 a month plan on March 30. Live sports will remain in Max’s two more expensive tiers.)

Now combine the $9.99 a month Max plan with this 30-day free trial of the Paramount Plus with Showtime package, which includes a live feed of your local CBS affiliate, and you’re guaranteed to watch every March Madness game for less than $10. (If you have a TV antenna, you could also watch the CBS games without paying additional money, assuming you can receive your local CBS signal.)

Update: As of March 18, 2025, the 30-day free trial is still available.

Why This Matters to Cord Cutters & TV Execs
This is a great value for basketball fans who wants their hoops fix without getting addicted to a bloated pay TV bundle of channels. However, for a company that offer multi channels, such as cable, satellite or YouTube TV, it’s a problem. Many viewers who would otherwise subscribe to a pay TV service to ensure they could watch March Madness now don’t have to. Consequently, they may just sign up for Max/Paramount Plus and forgo paying close to $100 for a single month of viewing.

Terrell, hope that answers your question. Happy viewing and stay safe!
