TV Answer Man, I have Comcast so can any Xfinity/Comcast subscriber watch the Super Bowl in Dolby Vision and 4K? – Sam, Landover, Maryland.
Sam, Comcast and Dolby announced today that Xfinity TV will offer this Sunday’s Super Bowl 2025 in both Dolby Vision 4K and Dolby Atmos.
The cable operator has previously provided the Super Bowl in Dolby Vision but this is the first time it will broadcast the big game with Dolby Atmos which allows sound designers to place sounds anywhere in the room. This means that sounds can come from above, below, and all around you, creating a more realistic and immersive audio experience. (Comcast provided last summer’s Olympics Games in both Dolby Vision and Atmos.)
Dolby Vision, which was also developed by Dolby Laboratories, can enhance the picture quality using High Dynamic Range (HDR). That provides a wider color gamut and improved brightness and contrast.
“The Super Bowl is another example of how Xfinity is redefining the sports viewing experience through innovations in our network and with the latest innovations from partners like Dolby,” said Vito Forlenza, Comcast’s vice president for sports entertainment, connectivity & platforms. “With the clearest picture quality and the most realistic audio possible, we’re offering customers a viewing experience they can’t get anywhere else for the biggest live sporting event of the year. Plus, we’re delivering it as fast as possible over our state-of-the-art network so customers can feel like they’re witnessing every exciting moment at the same time as the fans in the Superdome.”
Requirements For Watching the Super Bowl In Dolby Vision/Atmos
However, before you run out to order Comcast’s Xfinity TV, note that subscribers will only be able to watch the Super Bowl in Dolby Vision 4K with Dolby Atmos on select Xfinity set-tops: the Xi6 and XiOne. (If you’re not sure if you have a Xfinity Xi6 or XiOne, call or e-mail Xfinity customer service.)
The Xfinity XG1v4 set-top will have the 4K broadcasts, but not in Dolby Vision. (X1v4 model numbers are AX014ANM or AX014ANC. XiOne model numbers are SCXI11BEI or SCXi11AIC or WNXI11AEI. And Xi6 model numbers are AX061AEI or TX061AEI, listed as STB Version.)
Of course, you will also need a 4K TV that supports Dolby Vision 4K to watch the game in Dolby Vision 4K on Comcast. (You will also need a sound system that supports Dolby Atmos.)
But don’t despair if you don’t have one. You’ll still be able to watch it in non-Dolby Vision 4K with any 4K TV and one of the Xfinity 4K-enabled set-tops.
In addition, Comcast will offer a Dolby Vision 4K feed on its Xfinity Stream app. So, again, if you have a Dolby Vision-enabled 4K TV, you can watch the Super Bowl in that format without the Xfinity set-top. And you can watch it in non-Dolby Vision 4K on the Xfinity Stream app as well, assuming you have the 4K TV.
Sam, hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!
