Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, this week (November 11-17, 2024) plans to add 21 new TV shows and movies to its lineup. Here are the three most interesting new titles, in my humble opinion:

Dune: Prophecy, Season 1 (HBO Original)
Warner Bros. takes a stab at extending the Dune sci-fi franchise with this prequel set roughly 10,000 years before the original movie’s timeline. Emily Watson and Olivia Williams star as sisters, Valya and Tula, who lead a band of women that will battle evil forces threatening humanity’s very existence. First episode debuts Sunday, November 17.

Call Me Ted
And speaking of going to the company well, Max will roll out a six-part documentary on Ted Turner, the rambunctious “Mouth of the South” who started CNN and Turner Networks, crown jewels in the Warner Bros. Discovery’s portfolio. Despite Turner’s extraordinary career, I’m not sure it’s worth six episodes but I wouldn’t want to be the WBD executive to tell him that. (Turner is still kicking at 85.) Maybe his marriage to Jane Fonda will get two episodes. Debuts Wednesday, November 13.

Carville: Winning is Everything, Stupid (CNN Films)
And if you haven’t gotten your political fix yet this month, Max will debut Carville: Winning it Everything, Stupid, a documentary on James Carville, the former Clinton strategist and infamous Louisiana loudmouth (That’s a compliment.) The cameras follow Carville during an 18-month period in 2023 and 2024 when he lobbied to persuade President Biden to withdraw from the race (mission accomplished albeit with disappointing consequences for his party.) Debuts Thursday, November 14.
