Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, this week (September 15-21, 2024) plans to add 15 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here’s the one title you should watch if you’re watching only one, in my humble opinion:
The Penguin (HBO Original)
The HBO eight-episode limited series (meaning there won’t be a second season) stars Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, the archvillain who was first introduced in director Matt Reeves’ The Batman which starred Robert Pattinson as The Caped Crusader. The Penguin, which bumps Reeves to executive producer while Lauren LeFranc will play showrunner, will chronicle the little man’s rise to power in Gotham City, one week after the events of The Batman. This will be must-viewing for comic book fans, particularly Batman devotees, and the early reviews are glowing. Debuts Thursday, September 19 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and will then be available to stream on Max. Subsequent episodes will air Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET starting on September 29.
You might also want to check out, I Saw the TV Glow, the 2024 horror film from director Jane Schoenbrun which has received strong reviews.
