Netflix today has added 24 new TV shows and movies. Here are the three best, in my humble opinion:
Jaws (1975)
The big fish drama from director Steven Spielberg remains one of the tautest and most suspenseful movies ever made with outstanding performances from Roy Scheider as the town sheriff, Richard Dreyfuss as the marine biologist and Robert Shaw as the crafty (and cranky) boat captain. And what a great time to watch (or rewatch) the film with summer almost over.
Field of Dreams (1989)
The fantasy sports film stars Kevin Costner as a struggling Iowa farmer who’s summoned by the ghosts of the game to build a baseball field on his property. Only prime Costner (or maybe Tom Hanks) could have pulled this premise off, but it’s a great and tearjerking movie about baseball, family and the power of nostalgia. And you don’t have to be a baseball fan to love this sweet-hearted film.
Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009)
Kevin James stars as a bumbling New Jersey mall security guard who must rescue a group of hostages trapped during a store heist. KJ has faded somewhat from the limelight in recent years, but his work here reminds us that he was a very presence on TV and movies for several years a few decades ago. Amusing film albeit with a predictable plot.
