NBC confirmed today that it will offer 4K video and Dolby Atmos audio coverage of this month’s Olympic Games from Paris, although its press release does not specify whether the feed will be upconverted 4K (from a 1080p HD production) or native 4K (produced in 4K and transmitted to the home in 4K.) However, a network source tells The TV Answer Man that it will be upconverted 4K, not native.

The network, which has exclusive TV rights to the Games in the United States, says the 4K broadcast will be a 24/7 feed of USA Network’s Olympics coverage. The 4K broadcasts will include more than 400 hours, the most 4K programming ever offered by NBC in one Olympics.

NBC said the following TV providers will provide the 4K feed on special 4K channels: Altice, Comcast, Cox, DIRECTV/DIRECTV Stream, Dish, Fubo, Verizon, YouTube TV, and select participating NCTC members.

Update: Sling TV will also carry the games in 4K.

The network also owns the streaming service, Peacock, but its press release does not say if the streamer will provide a 4K feed. (TV Answer Man has also asked NBC about Peacock and 4K.) Peacock plans to show every event from the Olympics.

Update: The TV Answer Man has learned that Peacock will NOT have a 4K feed.

The network’s Olympics coverage will begin at 8 a.m. ET on July 24 and end at 5:30 p.m. ET on August 11. The USA Network’s 4K broadcasts will focus on Team USA and team sports like Basketball, Soccer, Beach Volleyball, Volleyball, and Water Polo. Other sports like Track and Field, 3×3 Basketball, Cycling, and Swimming will also be featured on USA in 4K.
