Apple TV+: How to Watch Padres-Braves, Cubs-Diamondbacks

TV Answer Man, the Cubbies are on Apple tonight and NOT on Marquee Sports! What’s the deal with that and how can we watch the game on the streamer? — Gina, Naperville, Illinois.

Gina, Apple TV+ is offering an exclusive weekly Friday night doubleheader of Major League Baseball games this season. The games will not be broadcast anywhere else, including the teams’ regional sports channels (Marquee Sports Network) in your area), MLB Extra Innings, or MLB.TV. Tonight’s doubleheader is the San Diego Padres at the Atlanta Braves at 7 p.m. ET and the Chicago Cubs at the Arizona Diamondbacks at 9:30 p.m. ET.

The good news is that Apple TV+ will provide the games for free at least until June 24, and it’s relatively easy to watch them.

The first thing is to get an Apple ID. If you already own an Apple device, such as an iPad or iPhone, you probably have one. But if you don’t, you go to the Apple TV+ web site and click the Sign In button in the right hand corner of the Home Page. A screen will display with instructions on how to sign up. Click the ‘Create New Apple TV ID’ link.

Then, about 30 minutes before the game begins, open the Apple TV+ app or go to its web site. You’ll see the game listed in a thumbnail on the Home Page. Click on the thumbnail and start watching. It’s that easy. Pre-game shows usually begin about 30 minutes before first pitch.

However, there are a few other things you need to know.

* Apple TV+ is not available on Android phones or tablets. If you own one of those, you will need to watch the games on the web site.

* If you subscribe to MLB.TV, you can watch the game by clicking on the Apple TV+ icon in the app. That will take you directly to the Apple TV+ app. (Unless you’re using an Android phone or tablet.)

* The games are not only free, you don’t have to input any financial information to watch, such as a credit card number.

Gina, hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!

Hi,
As an avid Braves fan I signed up for the “free trial” to Apple TV+ so as to watch the Padres/Braves game tonight on TV. However, the website did require financial info to complete the registration. Will cancel before the seven day trial is over. One caveat though…the fine print says you must request the cancellation one complete day BEFORE the seventh day! Otherwise, you will be charged for a month ($4.99) of programming!

Yeah when I bought my 8K tv it came with a 3 month free trial but I never activated it because of the credit card requirement. It used to be easy to cancel services but they’re making it harder. I had to jump through a hundred hoops to cancel Spectrum tv. You have to drill down like 4 pages to get to youtube tv’s cancel button.

Just as a followup…I canceled the Apple TV+ after the game on May 13th (same day). Even got a cancelation confirmation. Today, Apple billed my credit card today for $5.33 ($4.99 + tax) for June, 2022. I canceled AGAIN and sent an email requesting a refund. Next step will be to notify my credit card company. Never again!!!
