Amazon Prime & Netflix Adding 12 New Releases This Weekend: The 3 to Watch

By Phillip Swann

Netflix and Amazon’s Prime Video, arguably the nation’s two most popular streaming services, this weekend will add 12 new TV shows and movies to their lineups. Here are the three to watch, in my humble opinion:

Tyson Fury vs. Arslanbek Makhmudov – Netflix Live Event
When to Watch: Saturday, April 11, 2 p.m. ET (Preliminaries to start at 11 a.m. ET. Update: Fury/Makhmudov now set to begin at 5 pm ET
What Kind of Show: Sports
Who’s In It: Tyson Fury, Arslanbek Makhmudov

Netflix is back in the ring with this Saturday’s (April 11) match from London between former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury (34-2-1) and knockout specialist Arslanbek Makhmudov (21-2, 19 KOs). Fury hasn’t fought since December 2024, losing to Oleksandr Usyk by unanimous decision. He hopes a quick victory against Makhmudov will put him in line for a major payday against Anthony Joshua who was last seen feeding a humble sandwich to Jake Paul.

Phoebe Dynevor in Thrash.

Thrash (2026)
When to Watch: Friday, April 10
Where to Watch: Netflix
What Kind of Movie: Thriller
Who’s In It: Phoebe Dynevor, Whitney Peak

Netflix is really going for it this week. From fisticuffs to man-eating lions (Tuesday’s release of Beast, starring Idris Elba) to Thrash, a Netflix exclusive movie starring Phoebe Dynevor as a pregnant woman trapped in a car during a hurricane. That’s bad enough but the car is soon surrounded by coastal waters filled with sharks! The reviews are mixed on Thrash but The Wrap’s reviewer, William Bibbiani, offers some encouraging words: “If logic had anything to do with it, that would mean ‘Thrash’ was a bad movie. But logic has no place in these soggy halls. ‘Thrash’ may be arbitrary but it’s too energetic to be bad.” Sounds like it’s time to lower the lights, and your expectations, and you’ll have a good time.

NBA Doubleheader
When to Watch: 7 p.m. ET and 9:30 p.m. ET
Where to Watch: Amazon’s Prime Video
What Kind of Show: Basketball
Who’s In It: Cleveland at Atlanta; Minnesota at Houston

The opener (Cleveland at Atlanta at 7 p.m. ET) has serious playoff implications: The Cavs are just one game behind the Knicks for third place in the Eastern Conference with just two games left in the regular season. Meanwhile, the Hawks are tied for fifth in the East and must win one of its two remaining games to avoid falling into the play-in tournament. In the second game, the Rockets and Timberwolves have their playoff spots locked up so you can expect a little ‘load management’ tonight. Watch the first game and go to bed early, sports fans.

How to Get Netflix & Amazon On the Cheap
If you’re looking to watch one of our selections, don’t forget you can watch Amazon Prime Video for free if you already subscribe to Prime. And if you don’t, you can get a 30-day free trial and it includes all the programming and free shipping, among other benefits. Netflix doesn’t offer free trials but the streamer’s ads-included plan costs just $8.99 a month – and it really doesn’t squeeze in that many ads; you can deal with it.

What’s Coming to Netflix & Amazon Next Week?
On Thursday, April 16, Netflix will debut season two of Beef. The first season was a sneaky hit for Netflix. The show starred Steven Yeun and Ali Wong as strangers whose lives become inexorably entangled after being involved in a road rage incident. Beef is a terrific and funny commentary on how fleeting moments can change lives. To illustrate how well season one did, season two has nabbed some high-profile actors (Oscar Isaac, Cailee Spaeny, Carey Mulligan) to engage in an all-new feud.

As for Amazon Prime next week, the service on April 16 will debut Jerry West: The Logo, a documentary on the late Jerry West, arguably the most impactful person to ever grace the sport of pro basketball. The Logo (called that because the league used his image for the NBA logo which still stands) was a World Champion and perennial All-Star with the Los Angeles Lakers and then became one of the game’s greatest executives, masterminding elite Laker teams over several decades from Magic Johnson’s Showtime squad to the Kobe Bryant/Shaquille O’Neal era. This Amazon original sports doc chronicles his incredible career with interviews with legends such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as well as talks with West himself shortly before he died.
