Paramount Plus Adds 74 New Releases Today: The 3 to Watch
By Phillip Swann
The TV Answer Man – Buy Me a Coffee!
Paramount Plus today (March 1, 2026) is adding 74 new TV shows and movies to its streaming service. Here are the three to watch (or rewatch), in my humble opinion:
Chinatown (1974)
What Kind of Movie: Drama
Who’s In It: Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway, John Huston, Roman Polanski
Jack Nicholson stars in this Roman Polanski-directed neo noir classic about a private detective who gets more he can handle when he investigates the transfer of water in 1930s Los Angeles. Nicholson cements his status as one of Hollywood’s greatest as the cool but vulnerable detective J.J. Gittes and the supporting cast is exceptional, particularly Faye Dunaway as a powerful widow with a host of skeletons in the closet. But the real star here is Polanski who was just five years removed from the graphic slaying of his wife, Sharon Tate, by the Manson Family. Scene after scene in Chinatown offer subtle reminders of that grisly event but Polanski bravely taps his personal experience to tell a haunting tale.
Downhill Racer (1969)
What Kind of Movie: Sports Drama
Who’s In It: Robert Redford, Gene Hackman
If you’re missing the 2026 Winter Olympics, this one is for you. Robert Redford stars as a narcissistic but brilliant downhill skier who ruthlessly pursues an Olympic Gold Medal even at the expense of team members, lovers and friends. Gene Hackman is superb in support as the U.S. team coach who tries to rein his star in although he’s happy to reap the benefits of his victories. This is Redford’s most underrated performance and a rare opportunity to see him shed his good guy image. Director Michael Ritchie, who later directed Redford in the terrific political satire, The Candidate, delivers Hall of Fame first-ballot work here with the most realistic portrayal ever of the downhill. Ritchie strapped a camera on the skiers to show just how dangerous and exciting the sport is; you feel like you’re flying down the hill. Great work by all here.
Warrior (2011)
What Kind of Movie: Sports Drama
Who’s In It: Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton, Nick Nolte
Tom Hardy stars as a former Marine with a mysterious past who accidentally becomes a star in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. However, his path to winning a $5 million tournament gets a bit muddy when his estranged brother (Joel Edgerton) enters the contest. This is the best movie ever made about MMA with shockingly realistic displays of the fights and the damage done to the participants. Hardy is at his Brando-ish best and Edgerton is appealing as his misunderstood bro. And let us not forget the great Nick Nolte who will make you shed a few tears as their alcoholic Dad.
