Mar. 3-9: Max to Add 12 New Releases This Week – Here Are 3 You Don’t Want to Miss

Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, this week (March 3-9, 2025) is adding 12 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here’s the one you don’t want to miss if you’re watching only one, in my humble opinion:

Celtics City – Max Original
The Boston Celtics are arguably (the argument would come from Los Angeles) the best pro basketball franchise to ever take the court and this entertaining and insightful documentary on the team from longtime fan Bill Simmons (and others) seals the case that it’s also the most interesting. From coach Red Auerbach’s insistence on integrating the team in the 1950s and 60s to its epic battles (Larry Bird vs. Magic Johnson; Bill Russell vs. Wilt Chamberlain) with the Lakers to its present-day glory, Celtics City captures it all, leaving other teams, well, green with envy. First episode debuts on Max on Monday, March 3. Future episodes every Monday through April 28.

Two More Releases to Watch On Max This Week
Non-sports fans, or perhaps, just non-Celtics fans, should also check out Heretic, the 2024 horror film starring Hugh Grant as a reclusive psychopath who traps two young Mormon missionaries in his house and proceeds to scare the bejesus out of them, so to speak. Plenty of jump scares and a delicious turn by Grant. Heretic debuts Friday, March 7. Season four of The Righteous Gemstones, the over-the-top (in a good way) comedy drama about a televangelist, also premieres this week on Sunday.
