Netflix to Add 30 New Titles This Week – Here’s My 3 Most Interesting

Netflix this week (October 27-November 2, 2024) plans to add 30 TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three most interesting new titles, in my humble opinion:
The Diplomat (Season two)
Keri Russell, who shined so brightly as a Russian agent in FX’s The Americans, returns to the political/espionage stage playing a U.S. ambassador to England who must manage a series of international conflicts while watching her marriage crumble. I watched several episodes of season one and was hooked on Russell’s performance as the diplomat-in-distress, but the show does tend to get a bit soapy (and talky) at times. Season two debuts on October 31. Season one now on Netflix.
Whiplash (2014)
Damien Chazelle’s brilliant direction (his debut) and the exceptional performances by Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons make Whiplash one of the best films of the century to date. Teller plays a young drummer who will sacrifice anything (including relationships, personal health and mental well being) to succeed while Simmons is a ruthless (and cruel) music teacher who lives to mold talent into greatness regardless of the consequences. Whiplash is an amazing exploration of what it takes to reach the top. Great film! Debuts November 1.
Martha – Netflix Documentary
Netflix’s doc team tackles one of its most enigmatic subjects ever, homemaker and business icon, Martha Stewart. You might think Martha is all sugar and spice, but underneath the surface of her smile is a steely businesswoman ready to do whatever’s necessary to succeed. The show will feature extensive interviews with Miss Martha as well as her friends and adversaries. Debuts Wednesday, October 30.
