It’s the last weekend of the 2024 Summer Olympics, but it’s also a weekend that 37 new TV shows and movies will be added to Netflix, Peacock, Hulu and Max. Here’s the three most interesting, in my humble opinion.

The Umbrella Academy, Season 4 (Netflix)
The Netflix original series features a set of adopted sibling superheroes who cast aside their differences to solve their father’s death and rid the world of evil forces. Before you say — Another superhero show!? — The Umbrella Academy has generated relatively strong reviews. “The Umbrella Academy unfurls an imaginative yarn with furtive emotion and an exceptionally compelling ensemble, but the series’ dour sensibility often clashes with its splashy genre trappings,” says Rotten Tomatoes with a flourish. The cast includes Elliott Page, Tom Hopper, Aidan Gallagher and Robert Sheehan. Season four debuts on Netflix on Thursday, August 8. (First three seasons now available on Netflix.)

Industry, Season Three (HBO Original)
The dramatic series focuses on a group of young (and somewhat ruthless) college graduates who hope to climb their way to the top at a prestigious investment bank in London. Along the way, they stab each other in the back, kiss up to their bosses and have lots of sex. Industry has generated strong critical reviews, some of whom compare the show favorably to HBO’s Succession. However, I couldn’t get past the first episode of season one; the characters were one dimensional and the plotlines quite predictable. (I’ll admit that I am probably not the right demographic.) But you can judge for yourself. Seasons one and two are now on Max and the first episode of season three debuts on Max on Sunday, August 11. (Future episodes will air weekly on Sundays.)

The Bikeriders (2023) (Peacock)
Austin Butler (Elvis, Once Upon a Time In Hollywood) stars as a mercurial motorcycle gang member in the 1960s who gets caught up in the byzantine wars between rival gangs which leads to mayhem and murder. Jodie Comer plays his girlfriend who embraces the gang life despite the dangers while Tom Hardy is the uber-violent gang leader. Based on a real story, The Bikeriders, which will make its streaming debut on Peacock, was a critical success, generating an 81 score at Rotten Tomatoes.”Fueled by a charismatic cast and the gritty authenticity of writer-director Jeff Nichols’ approach, The Bikeriders offers a conventional yet impactful look at motorcycle culture,” the site states. Debuts Friday, August 9 on Peacock.
