The 2024 Paris Olympics Games are underway, but there’s so much more coming this weekend to your streaming lineups. Netflix, Hulu, Max and Amazon’s Prime Video plan to add 30 new titles from Thursday, July 25 through Sunday, July 28. Here are the three most interesting new titles, in my humble opinion:
Knox Goes Away (2023) – Max
Michael Keaton stars (and directs the film) as a contract killer who’s suffering from dementia. His condition leads to him flubbing an assignment so his crime boss (Al Pacino!) gives him the old offer he can’t refuse. I haven’t seen the film and it generated mixed reviews when it was released last year. But with Keaton and Pacino in a neo noir thriller, watching it is an offer I can’t refuse. Debuts on Max on Friday, July 26.
The Man From U.N.C.L.E (2015) – Netflix
Directed and co-written by Guy Ritchie, the movie reboot of the 1960s TV series stars Henry Cavill as the superspy Napoleon Solo (played in the TV series by Robert Vaughn). Armie Hammer is his sidekick, Illya Kuryakin, and the two battle Nazi sympathizers and other evil forces. The 2015 film received mixed reviews, but it’s a fun ride thanks to the leads and the impressive supporting cast which includes Elizabeth Debicki, Hugh Grant and Alicia Vikander. Debuts on Netflix on Saturday, July 27.
Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning (2023)
The seventh installment in the action/adventure series starring Tom Cruise as secret agent Ethan Hunt was released in theaters on July 12, 2023, generating nearly $600 million worldwide. And with good reason. The film is arguably the best MI yet with daredevil stunts and plot twists that defy the eyes and the senses. Cruise has never been better and the supporting cast, including series newcomer Hayley Atwell, is splendid. Get the big box of popcorn out for this one and enjoy. Debuts on Amazon’s Prime Video on Thursday, July 25.
