Main Street Sports, the owner of the FanDuel Sports Network, will officially begin closing its business after the first round of the NHL playoffs, reports Sports Business Journal. That will allow 13 NBA and six NHL teams to seek new TV partners for the 2026/27 seasons.
The NBA teams are the Hawks, Hornets, Cavaliers, Pistons, Pacers, Clippers, Grizzlies, Heat, Bucks, Timberwolves, Thunder, Magic and Spurs. The NHL teams are the Hurricanes, Blue Jackets, Kings, Red Wings, Wild, Predators and Blues.
The move has been expected for months with the financially troubled Main Street Sports failing to seek a buyer.
“FanDuel Sports Network has reached agreements with the NBA and NHL to broadcast games and other programming through the end of the 2026 NBA regular season and the end of the first round of the NHL playoffs,” Main Street Sports said in a statement to SBJ. “We are preparing to wind down our operations upon seasons’ end unless we reach a strategic transaction. We’re pleased to finish out the NBA and NHL seasons, and we appreciate the collaborative relationships we have enjoyed with our team and league partners as well as the connections we have fostered with local fans.”
SBJ writes that the NBA is urging teams to sign one-year TV deals with another company with the league contemplating a national streaming plan for the 2027/28 season. The publication adds that the league also recommends new deals have an exit clause in case the national streaming plan is launched next season.
Companies likely to bid for the NBA teams include ESPN, Amazon, Google’s YouTube TV and DAZN, SBJ writes.
