TV Answer Man, will the ESPN college football game be in 4K on YouTube TV if there is still a blackout fight? – Jamal, Sacramento.
Jamal, ESPN will have an upscale 4K game this week and it will be Saturday (November 15, 2025) at 7:30 p.m. ET between 10th ranked Texas and 5th ranked Georgia from the Sanford Stadium on the Georgia campus in Athens, Georgia.
While ESPN is producing the event, it will actually air on ABC, which will simulcast the game in HD on ABC network affiliates. The game will be available in upscaled 4K on select TV providers.
Which TV Providers Will Offer the Game In 4K?
Dish, Sling TV, DIRECTV, Comcast, Optimum, Verizon and Spectrum TV (Xumo boxes only) are expected to offer the game on their ESPN 4K channels. ESPN does not offer 4K programming on its new Unlimited app. Note that ESPN and ABC are now not available on YouTube TV due to a carriage dispute. This includes YouTube TV’s 4K ESPN channel. The two companies would have to settle their fight before Saturday’s kickoff for YouTube TV to show the game in either HD or 4K.
What Is Upscaled 4K?
The ESPN 4K broadcast will be ‘upscaled’ from 1080p HD. The upscaled 4K means that the game will be produced in 1080p HD on site and upgraded to 4K for the home transmission. ESPN switched to upscaled 4K a few years ago after previously doing some games in native 4K, which is a 4K production on site transmitted to the home in 4K as well.
Who’s Expected to Win the Texas-Georgia Game?
Georgia (8-1) is a 6.5-point favorite to defeat Texas (7-2). ESPN’s Matchup Predictor gives Georgia a 59.9 percent chance of winning.
Jamal, I hope that answers your question. Happy viewing and stay safe!
