Curiosity and DIRECTV today announced a multi-tier distribution agreement that allows the TV provider to offer the Video on Demand service, Curiosity Stream, for $4.99 a month as an add-on plan.

Curiosity Stream, which was founded by the people behind the original Discovery channel, features on-demand shows about nature, technology, science, lifestyle, history and more. If you liked the Discovery channel before it became home to shows about 600-pound baby Mamas and pawn shops, you’ll love Curiosity Stream.

In addition as part of the agreement between the companies, DIRECTV last year added Curiosity Now, an ads-supported 24/7 free channel to its MyFree DIRECTV streaming lineup. Curiosity Now offers a mix of science and technology documentaries for the intellectually curious.

“This is a pivotal moment for Curiosity as we expand our U.S. reach across FAST and SVOD in one comprehensive agreement,” said Jay Sodha, Curiosity’s VP of Business Development and Partnerships. “DIRECTV’s scale, brand strength, and evolving platform strategy makes it the perfect partner to help us deliver smart, inspiring, and entertaining content to viewers wherever they are and however they choose to watch.”
