Netflix adds scores of new TV shows and movies every month so I thought it would be helpful to point out three new titles recently added that I just watched and why you should watch them, too. And here they are:
Apple Cider Vinegar – Netflix Original Series
Kaitlyn Dever (Justified, Dopesick) stars as Belle Gibson, a wellness expert in Australia who shocks the world by claiming to cure her brain cancer with a special diet. The problem is, she never actually had brain cancer. While the series takes considerable liberties with the true story, it provides a much-needed spotlight on the superficiality of social media. And if you’re not familiar with Dever’s work, she’s an exciting actress who seems to get more interesting with every role. Dever nails both the Australian accent and the ardent ambition that drives Gibson to weave one tale after another to achieve Internet fame and fortune.
Why Watch: The show is a gripping tale of deception and an expose of the dark side of social media. Plus, a standout performance from Kaitlyn Dever.
American Primeval (Netflix original series)
Taylor Kitsch stars as a stoic frontiersman in 1850s Oregon who agrees to shepherd a woman (Betty Gilpin) and her son across a war-torn stretch of land inhabited by Native Americans, mercenaries, Mormons and the U.S. Calvary. The six-part series, directed by Peter Berg (who has teamed with Kitsch on multiple projects, including as Tim Riggins in TV’s Friday Night Lights), portrays the violent clash of cultures and religions that ultimately shaped the American West, for better or worse. And Kitsch is the best he’s been since Friday Night Lights, renewing a sentiment that he has star power if only he got the right roles. Well, this role is right on. A powerful performance.
Why Watch: Excellent performances from Taylor Kitsch and Betty Gilpin as well as a riveting portrayal of the Wild West in its formative years.

The Founder (2016)
Michael Keaton is brilliant as Ray Kroc, the California businessman who transformed a single roadside hamburger joint called McDonald’s into a multi-billion dollar fast food phenomenon. The film chronicles Kroc’s ruthless drive to jettison the restaurant’s original founders and implement a rigid mass assembly system to enable a nationwide franchise. As Kroc, who later also went on to become the owner of the San Diego Padres, Keaton personifies the American essence of entrepreneurship albeit at the risk of losing one’s moral compass. Great underrated film!
Why Watch: Michael Keaton is brilliant in this fast-paced look at the early years of an American institution.
