Amazon’s Prime Video this month (December 2024) plans to add 138 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three most interesting, in my humble opinion:

The Bikeriders (2023)
Austin Butler (Elvis, Once Upon a Time In Hollywood) stars as a mercurial motorcycle gang member in the 1960s who gets caught up in the byzantine wars between rival gangs which leads to mayhem and murder. Jodie Comer plays his girlfriend who embraces the gang life despite the dangers while Tom Hardy is the uber-violent gang leader inspired by Marlon Brando’s turn in The Wild Ones. Based on a real story, The Bikeriders generated an 81 score at Rotten Tomatoes. ”Fueled by a charismatic cast and the gritty authenticity of writer-director Jeff Nichols’ approach, The Bikeriders offers a conventional yet impactful look at motorcycle culture,” the site states. I watched the movie when it first aired on Peacock and was impressed with both Hardy and Butler whose performances seemed inspired by the great method actors of previous decades. (And that’s a good thing.) Debuts December 10.

The Sticky – Amazon Original
Character actor extraordinaire Margo Martindale finally gets her own spotlight as a maple syrup farmer who cooks up a heist of the Quebec maple syrup surplus center when Canadian bureaucrats try to shut her farm down. Based on a real-life story, the Amazon original series sounds like a rare opportunity to watch an actor like Martindale at her best and, if that’s not enough, it will also feature Jamie Lee Curtis in a recurring role. Debuts December 6.

Beast Games – Amazon Original
The social media goliath known as Mr. Beast will host a daredevil challenge with 1,000 contestants competing for a grand prize of $5 million. Not surprisingly, the show has already generated lawsuit threats and accusations of everything from sexual harassment to extremely dangerous conditions. Which means it will probably be a hit. Debuts December 19.
