DIRECTV’s Satellite Service Raising Prices Next Month

DIRECTV, which is embroiled in a nasty carriage dispute with Disney, has announced that it will raise prices for its satellite service’s programming packages next month from $2 to $10 month depending upon the plan. The company earlier this morning announced that DIRECTV Stream will also raise prices in October.
The latest announcement at the DIRECTV web site says the following satellite packages will see increases on or after October 6, 2024:
Basic Choice — $2 a month increase.
Family Basic — $3 a month increase
Preferred Choice — $4 a month increase
The following plans will get a $5 a month increase

Select Choice
Mas Latino
Mas Mexico
Basico
Familiar
Opcion Especial
Opcion Extra Especial
The following plans will get a $6 a month increase
Entertainment
Entertainment Classic
Familiar Ultra
Opcion Ultra Especial
Total Choice
Total Choice Limited
Total Choice Mobile
Optimo Mas – $7 a month increase
The following plans will get a $8 a month increase
Choice
Mas Ultra
Mas Ultra Original
The following will get a $9 a month increase
Premier
Ultimate
Xtra
Preferred Xtra
Choice Xtra Classic
Lo Maximo
Opcion Premier
Max Plus – $10 a month increae
In addition, DIRECTV is raising its regional sports fee by as much as $2 a month although it says some subscribers will see no change.
The price increases will likely further upset DIRECTV’s subscriber base which has been without the Disney suite of channels, including ESPN, since Sunday due to a carriage dispute between the companies.
DIRECTV, which has increased prices annually for several years, posted this statement to defend the latest increases:
“We’re adjusting the price of your television package to remain competitive in the marketplace, while still delivering the best possible programming. TV networks are continuing to increase the fees they charge DIRECTV for the right to distribute the content they produce, including movies, shows, and sporting events. We remain steadfast in our commitment to bring you the best programming at a fair and reasonable price.”
