Peacock to Add 10 New Titles This Week – Here’s the 3 Most Interesting

Peacock this week (August 18-24, 2024) plans to add 10 new TV shows and movies to its lineup. Here’s the three most interesting, in my humble opinion:

Homicide: Life on the Street (All seven seasons)
Homicide: Life on the Street, which aired on NBC for seven seasons (1993-99), stars the late Andre Braugher (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Thief, Gideon’s Crossing) as Frank Pembleton, a mercurial but brilliant detective on a murder squad in Baltimore. But the show, which it says here was one of television’s greatest ever, was truly the product of an incredible ensemble cast (Yaphet Kotto, Richard Belzer, Kyle Secor, Clark Johnson, Melissa Leo, Ned Beatty, among so many other outstanding performers) and equally talented writing and production team including Barry Levinson, Paul Attanasio, and Tom Fontana.

And, this week, it’s finally coming to streaming!

Peacock, which is operated by NBCUniversal, will add all seven seasons of Homicide: Life on the Street on Monday, August 19. Even better, the show, which was broadcast in standard-definition, will be remastered to HD and 4K.

Homicide: Life on the Street has never been available via streaming except for a few random episodes on YouTube. Show producers and writers, including Barry Levinson, often expressed frustration about the omission. In fact, Levinson told the New York Times last year that he had no idea why a streaming service couldn’t show it. But whatever the obstacle was, it’s been removed. Debuts Monday, August 19.

Face to Face with Scott Peterson – Premiere – All Episodes
And speaking of homicides, Peacock will debut an original documentary on the murder of Laci Peterson, the suburban woman who was eight months pregnant when she disappeared on Christmas Eve in 2002. A California jury convicted Laci’s philandering husband, Scott Peterson, of the murder but the physical evidence was thin and one advocacy group is pushing for a new trial. This Peacock doc will present an exclusive interview with the imprisoned Peterson who has maintained his innocence from the start. Debuts Tuesday, August 20.

Also note that Netflix just premiered its own Peterson doc, entitled American Murder: Laci Peterson. The Netflix showrunners aren’t buying Scott’s story. (And if this case sounds oddly familiar to you, David Fincher’s movie, Gone Girl, starring Ben Affleck in the Peterson-like role, was clearly based on it. Gone Girl is now available on MGM+.)

The Killer (2024)
And speaking of killers, Nathalie Emmanuel stars in this John Woo-directed film (a remake of this 1989 movie) as an assassin who must commit one final murder before hanging up her holster. Omar Sy (Netflix’s Lupin) plays a detective who’s on her trail. No one does action better than Woo and the trailer looks sensational. (Plus, it’s a Peacock exclusive.) Debuts Friday, August 23.
