DIRECTV’s Via Internet service is now offering $380 in combined discounts and a Visa card to new customers. (Returning customers who disconnected service within previous 12 months are not eligible for the offer.) The offer includes $10 off each of the first 24 months of service ($240 total value) and a $140 Visa reward card.
However, the promotion, which is tied to the start of the 2024 football season, has more catches than Tyreek Hill.
First, to get the $10 a month discount, you must agree to subscribe to DIRECTV Via Internet’s Entertainment plan or above for two years. If you cancel prior to the end of the two years, you will be charged $20 a month for every month left in your agreement.
Second, to get the $140 Visa reward card, you must subscribe to the Choice or Ultimate plan and the DIRECTV Sports Pack, which is $14.99 a month. Plus, you must keep the Choice or Ultimate sub for the two years and the Sports Pack sub until the card is issued and activated. The latter requirement could take three or four months, according to the terms of the offer.
The DIRECTV Via Internet’s Entertainment plan is now $59.99 a month while the Choice plan is $74.99 a month and the Ultimate plan, $104.99 a month. But you also need to get the DIRECTV Gemini receiver which is another $15 a month in fees and there is a $5.99 a month regional sports fee.
Bottom line: The deal appears to be better than it actually is when you factor in the added costs and requirements. But if you’re in the market for a new TV service, and don’t mind a two-year commitment, it’s worth perusing although I can’t recommend it. You can learn more about the offer here.
Note: DIRECTV Via Internet is different from DIRECTV Stream because it requires the two-year agreement and the fee-included Gemini receiver. DIRECTV Stream, which is also an online service, allows you to use your own streaming device and does not require a term commitment.
