Hulu this week (June 9-15, 2024) plans to add 29 new TV shows and movies to its subscription Video on Demand service. Here are the three most interesting, in my humble opinion:

FX on Hulu’s Clipped
Last week, I watched the first two episodes of FX On Hulu’s Clipped, the tawdry tale of the downfall of Donald Sterling and the Los Angeles Clippers. (Future episodes will debut on Tuesdays until the six episode limited series is over.) Based on the first two installments, Clipped is not as good as HBO’s Winning Time, largely because the personalities and storylines pale in comparison. (It’s hard to compete with Magic, Kareem and owner Jerry Buss in the HBO series on the Lakers of the late 1970s and early 1980s.) But it’s still very entertaining and worth a watch, particularly for hoop fans. Laurence Fishburne stands out as the frustrated Clippers coach, Doc Rivers, but Ed O’Neill is also good as Sterling as is Jackie Weaver as his neglected spouse. Episode three will pick up with the disclosure that the Clippers owner made racist remarks to his girlfriend/assistant, including admonishing her for taking a photo next to Magic Johnson. Episode three debuts Tuesday, June 11.

Brats
This ABC documentary chronicles the misfit actors (Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Ally Sheedy etc.) behind such 1980s movie hits as The Breakfast Club, St. Elmo’s Fire and Pretty In Pink. Known as The Brat Pack, the crew seemed intent on doing as much damage to themselves (and sometimes others) during a decade when access to excess was the norm. The doc examines how they survived and thrived in surreal times. Debuts Thursday, June 13.

Comedy Stand-Up Specials
On Friday, Hulu will debut 10 different comedy stand-up specials. The list is lengthy so we would advise watching the ones with Joel McHale, Whitney Cummings and Margaret Cho. Funny people.
