TV Answer Man, do you know how much the Comcast bundle of Netflix and other streaming services will cost. I can’t find that anywhere. — Gina, Boston.

Gina, Comcast CEO Brian Roberts yesterday told the MoffettNathanson industry conference that his company this month plans to introduce a streaming bundle called StreamSaver. The bundle is expected to include Netflix, Apple TV+ and the Comcast-owned Peacock. Roberts did not specify the price but said the three services would be offered at a “vastly reduced” rate. (Note that the Comcast streaming bundle will require a subscription to a Comcast service, be it video or Internet.)

“StreamSaver is going to be available to all customers, not just one segment or another,” Roberts said, according to the Seeking Alpha transcript. “So if you’re an Xfinity broadband customer, Xfinity TV customer, StreamSaver works for you. If you’re a NOW customer, there’ll be a NOW StreamSaver. And StreamSaver is Peacock, Netflix, and Apple TV. And those three products will come at a vastly reduced price to anything in the market today and be available to all our customers. And that’s an everyday pricing, not an introductory pricing. And we’ll reveal all that and it’ll be available this month.”

So what will be ‘vastly reduced’ price, you ask?

Peacock’s cheapest plan is now $5.99 a month, but it will increase to $7.99 a month in July. However, Comcast’s Xfinity service currently sells Peacock for $2.99 a month to some video and Internet subscribers. So let’s say Peacock will be priced at $2.99 a month in the Comcast bundle.

Then, I would guess that Comcast will take a $1 off both Netflix and Apple TV+. The current minimum price for Netflix is $6.99 a month while it’s $9.99 a month for Apple TV+. That would reduce the price of those two services combined to $15 a month.

Add that to the Peacock $3 a month and you get a bundle for $18 a month. That would be a $5 a month savings over the current rate if you ordered them separately. ($6 for Peacock; $7 for Netflix; $10 for Apple TV+.) That might not sound like a ‘vastly reduced’ price but it would represent roughly a 22 percent savings.

If Comcast shaved $2 off Netflix and Apple TV+, the bundle price would be $16, which would be roughly a 30 percent discount. It’s certainly possible the cable operator would offer that price at launch to entice people to subscribe. It would be easier to sell the plan as a ‘deal’ with a 30 percent discount compared to a 22 percent reduction.

Gina, that’s my best guess. We should learn more in the next few weeks. Until then, happy viewing and stay safe!
