Hulu this month (June 2024) plans to remove 41 TV shows and movies from its subscription Video on Demand service. Here are the three you don’t want to miss before they leave, in my humble opinion:

The Batman (2022)
Just when you thought that the Batman saga had been exhausted, director Matt Reeves stepped up with this absorbing 2022 gem starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader fighting crime in Gotham City. The film, which matches director Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight trilogy) in moodiness and atmospherics, breaks some new ground with its portrayal of Batman as trauma survivor and Paul Dano as a deeply psychotic Riddler. The Batman is too dark for the kiddies but it’s a faithful continuation of the graphic comic book series.

Die Hard (1988)
Bruce Willis plays the smirking New York cop combatting a terrorist takeover of his wife’s office building in Los Angeles on Christmas Eve. The film, directed with perfection by John McTiernan, redefined the action genre and made Willis an A-List star. Alan Rickman nearly steals the picture as the evil, acid-tongued terrorist boss. (Hulu will also remove Die Hard 2, Live Free or Die Hard, and Die Hard With a Vengeance in June.)

Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy (2004)
Will Ferrell is at his peak zaniness as a narcissistic San Diego news anchor whose perfect life is disrupted when the station hires a female co-anchor, played superbly by Christina Applegate. The film serves as both satire of local news in the 1970s and a showcase for Ferrell’s slapstick genius and the supporting cast is just brilliant including Fred Willard, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and David Koechner. And don’t miss the amazing news anchor duel with cameos from Ben Stiller, Tim Robbins and Vince Vaughn. Funny film!
