Amazon’s Prime Video this week (June 9-15, 2024) plans to add four new TV shows and movies to its Prime membership lineup. Here’s the one you should watch, in my humble opinion:
The Boys, season four (Amazon original)
The Amazon original comedy/adventure series asks the question: What could happen if our superheroes decided to turn on us? And, we had to band together to stop them? The premise seems a touch perverse, even in today’s cynical age, but Amazon has successfully turned the idea now into four seasons and the critics seem to love it. The first three seasons generated scores of 85, 97, and 98 respectively at Rotten Tomatoes. The pleasing cast includes Jack Quaid, Karl Urban, Erin Moriarty and Antony Starr. Debuts Thursday, June 13.
We also can recommend Black Mass, the 2015 film starring Johnny Depp as real-life Boston mobster Whitey Bulger. I wouldn’t call it Depp’s best work, or the best crime drama ever made, but it will hold your interest if you like the genre.
