TV Answer Man, do you know if the Preakness will be in 4K? I am very excited about the race because we went to the Derby!! – Maddie, Lexington, Kentucky.

Maddie, the 2024 Preakness, the second leg in horse racing’s Triple Crown, will be held this Saturday (May 18) from Baltimore’s Pimlico Race Course. The entries are expected to include surprise Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan, Muth, Imagination, and Tuscan Gold, among others.

NBC and Peacock will offer coverage of the event with the race scheduled at around 6:50 p.m. ET. Peacock’s streaming coverage will begin at 1:30 p.m. ET.

But will it be available in 4K? The answer, alas, is no, only high-def. Neither Peacock nor NBC will provide a 4K feed of the Preakness.

Peacock, which provided live college football and basketball games in 4K last year, suddenly stopped its 4K coverage without explanation. It’s a real shame because it looked great, but 4K enthusiasts have become accustomed to being disappointed, right?

Sorry, Maddie, but I hope you enjoy the race. Happy viewing and stay safe!
