TV Answer Man, we lost our local channels on DIRECTV for more than a day before they came back. Will DIRECTV give us a credit for our lost channels?! — Tate, town withheld.

Tate, DIRECTV’s satellite service on Tuesday suffered a nationwide outage that caused millions of subscribers to lose their local channels and a few others such as the NFL Network and Fox Business. The technical snafu, which the company said was caused by a ‘space event’ that repositioned a satellite, did not affect DIRECTV’s streaming services.

The channels finally returned on Wednesday, but many customers have asked The TV Answer Man if DIRECTV will compensate them for the 24-hour plus outage. The answer is yes, but you may have to ask for the credit.

DIRECTV’s X customer help page yesterday told subscribers that they could input their zip codes at the DIRECTV Promises page to see if they are eligible for a credit. But The TV Answer Man inputted several zip codes this morning and did not see a credit notification for any of them.

“We apologize for how long this issue has taken to be fixed. Our team is working hard to restore the service. You can stay updated and check your credit eligibility by accessing the ZIP code Locator at https://spr.ly/6010XENzj,” @DIRECTVHelp wrote yesterday at X.

However, the DIRECTV Help team also told subscribers they would provide a $10 credit if they sent a Direct Message to it on X. So we suggest that you try the DIRECTV Promises page here, and if that doesn’t work, either contract DIRECTV’s customer service by phone or on X and ask for the $10 credit.
