Netflix tomorrow (June 1, 2024) plans to add 28 new movies to its streaming lineup. Here’s the three best, in my humble opinion:

The Breakfast Club (1985)
The John Hughes-directed comedy is peak Brat Pack with Emilio Estevez, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson and Anthony Michael Hall as five totally different teenagers who must serve detention together on a Saturday. The Breakfast Club is funny, charming and a time capsule-like glimpse into the whatever! mores of young people in the 1980s. No one could milk this segment better than Hughes, the director of such bratty teen comedies as Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Weird Science.

La La Land (2016)
La La Land is guaranteed to lift your spirits and perhaps your feet as well. Directed by Damien Chazelle, the film stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as a struggling jazz pianist and actress respectively in cold-hearted Los Angeles. However, their dreams fuel a zest for life that keeps them on their toes, literally and figuratively. A throwback to the great MGM musicals of the 1940s, La La Land is a feast for the eyes (and the soul) and was wholly worthy of its Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.

1917 (2019)
Directed by Sam Mendes, 1917 is the story of two British soldiers who risk everything to deliver a crucial message to the troops before a doomed offensive in World War I. The film puts the viewer in the middle of the combat as well as the psyches of the two soldiers who suppress all survival instincts for the greater cause. Great film from a great director.
