Roku has removed Charter’s Spectrum TV app from its Channel Store in the latest carriage dispute involving the streaming device maker.
Update: Roku & Charter Settle Dispute
The app, which allows Charter’s Spectrum subscribers to watch live TV and On Demand programming, is still available for Roku owners who have previously downloaded it. However, you can no longer download it from the Roku Channel Store, and if you uninstall it from your Roku menu, you will not be able to replace it.
“The Spectrum TV app has been removed from the Roku Channel Store. Visit Spectrum.net/roku for details, including how to access Spectrum TV on other streaming devices,” Charter says at its web site. The cable operator’s app is still available on Apple TV, Samsung Smart TVs, the Xbox, smartphones and tablets.

Asked for a comment, Charter spokesperson Andrew Russell last night told the TV Answer Man via e-mail that “existing Spectrum TV app users will continue to have access on their Roku devices. Roku is an important partner and we are hopeful we will reach an agreement soon.”
The TV Answer Man has asked Roku for a comment and will report back here if and when we get one. It appears that Roku has removed all references to the Spectrum app from its web site. Roku first added the Spectrum app in October 2015.
Roku had a similar dispute last January with AT&T over its AT&T TV app, removing it from the Channel Store, but allowing current users to keep it in their menus. The carriage fight was settled later in the year and AT&T TV is back in the Channel Store.
And Roku is now engaged in a more heavily-publicized scrap with AT&T over its HBO Max app. The streaming device has yet to carry it due to differences over fees and advertising/marketing issues.
Roku has signaled in the last year or so that it plans to push for greater compensation and control when it comes to adding high-profile apps. The company is arguably the nation’s leading maker of streaming devices with its products in roughly 40 million homes.

I have a Roku streaming stick with the Spectrum TV app already installed on it. But I also have it on a LG phone from the Google play store. Along with my Vizio TV so I can use both & I can cast the Spectrum TV app from the LG phone to my Vizo smartcast & watch it that way whenever I want. The Roku is not the only thing I mean it’s nice at first. But now it’s kinda hard for the voice remote to understand what you ask it to do. It must be the new software update. So there are alternatives to the Roku to get the Spectrum TV app that are becoming more efficient. Maybe by then Roku will have more fluid response with their voice remote
Thank you Roku.Good riddance to bad rubbish.Spectum is too expensive and too many hidden fees. Im glad your cleaning house.
You dumbass cretin. The Roku app IS A MAIN WAY to bring down costs for people using Spectrum, so people don’t have to rent expensive cable boxes. You are seriously the one to complain about price, and immediately stab yourself in the back with the next thought bubble in your dumb head. You saying it’s good to remove a cheaper option to watch cable tv, which now is leaving more customers to use the expensive cable boxes more often…Get out of here until you know what to actually complain about lol
True. I have a streaming package with Charter that costs only $15 a month and that includes all fees and taxes. By having me use the Roku, Charter can offer an extremely affordable package. And best of all, there is no Broadcast TV Fee, which is on almost all cable bills, which is up to like $8 a month now.
If you don’t have Spectrum, why so you care? Its a lot easier to buy a new steaming device than finding a new service provided. Once Roku goes out, I will find something else.
Spectrum was taken off my Roku
I still have spectrum so should I go t at&t app now.
I am watching spectrum on my Roku as we speak
Story notes that you can, but you can no longer download the app. So do not delete it or you won’t be able to add it back.
Will automatic account link transfer the Spectrum app to a new Roku if you currently have the spectrum app on an existing Roku?
Use your account user name and password to log in.
Do you know Spectrum’s ETA for getting the app back on Roku?
Not so TV Answer man. We had Spectrum app on our Roku, took our Roku with us while on vacation, our Spectrum app on roku kept saying connect to internet to get full access. We signed out and tried to sign back in. Said Spectrum app no longer available. We DID NOT uninstall app and we are current Spectrum customers.!
House inhabitants share internet cost, alas it’s Spectrum. So changing ISP isn’t an option. I ended up buying a referb Apple TV HD. Spectrum TV is still available at the apple store. I’ll miss my Roku. Fee seems a moot point if people dump your device.
This is ridiculous. Fee fight… Just like the government does and the people suffer. For crying out loud …. Get it together
Damn!! I just brought a Roku Soundbar for my Mom & Aunt for Christmas yesterday and they use Charter Spectrum app. Now I have to come up with a different gift and get my $$ back. 😕
I am not surprised. One of the biggest expensive in the average household is cable TV. The cable companies are angry because customers no longer have to rent cable boxes or pay excessive fees to get certain channels. An employee of a cable company told me they wouldn’t rent the cable boxes when you can stream everything. People are still paying for use of internet services and particularly in this year more people are learning how to save by cutting back on wants vs needs. You can’t fault people for that.
So is roku gonna take away the 100.00 fee to get on the roku page.
So I can get hulu and disney channel on my t.v.
Because I am told that I have to pay to get in this page.
When it has always been free.
If you already have the spectrum app on one Roku will automatic account link transfer the Spectrum app to the other device?
I bought a number of Rokus just for this purpose… and not having to rent the cable box (which Spectrum still required to rent one). Personally, I wanted this on my Fire TV Cubes… but no Amazon support from Spectrum
Fire TV is in the works. They’re also in negotiations
I will get rid of Roku before I get rid of my Spectrum streaming App. Roku hold companies for ransom it seems. WE the customer end up paying for their greedy corporate fights. Frustrated.
Spectrum has been on of the greediest providers I have ever dealt with, with lousy service. Their rates keep creeping up, but the ad content is huge. I don’t blame Roku for asking for more to carry their app. The programing is degraded, and there is only a few channels we watch, and went to streaming to cut costs, but they are again charging fees for broadcast on Spectrum. I enjoy BayNews9, but I can find other local channels on the Roku if necessary. I have several Rokus and a firestick that Spectrum offered some time ago when they started this price battle, but I would drop Spectrum before I got rid of the Roku. There are many apps out there that charge, and carry the few channels I watch. I will pick up one of them if necessary.
We have Roku devices in all five rooms and all five Rokus no longer have the app available. We did not delete it….all of a sudden it was gone on all give devices.
I didn’t delete my Spectrum app, but my Roku updated early this morning. Does that mean Roku deleted the app when it update?
What happen to roku free movies it not working
It funny they say (Spectrum) that you won’t lose your current app downloaded, but all 3 of my TV’s suddenly are without the Spectrum app! We will be forced to get rid of Spectrum if they don’t resolve this soon!
The Specreum app was also removed from my list.
*Spectrum
The Roku Ultra player I have has a limited amount of memory to store your channel apps. If you have more apps than will fit into that memory the player deletes some to make room for others. If you then want to use one that has been deleted it must be re-downloaded. My player has a slot for a micro-SD card to store those apps that won’t fit into it’s internal memory so they don’t have to be re-downloaded. I suspect those Roku users who lost their Spectrum app are not using the SD card or have more apps than will fit into their memory if they have a different player.
Another reason that Roku’s are worthless. I paid extra for a premium, and it still wants a sd card?
Spectrum app wasn’t deleted, but when I try to launch it, it immediately goes back to the main menu.
As I understand it, the thumbnail will still be shown but the app will still have to be downloaded. I have several apps that the thumbnails are still visable but when I click them I get a message saying that channel is no longer available.
I can’t even spell my name right.
This is what is happening to me as well.
I put the Spectrum app on my iPad and can now access Spectrum on my Roku 🙂
Explain more
What a crock of s###. I canceled my SpectrumTV app a month ago to save some dollars during the pandemic, then unknowingly signed back up today, only to find to my horror that the app was deleted from my Roku, and is no longer supported??? Are you kidding me right now?
Roku made it impossible to use my Spectrum App and it disappeared after I rebooted my smart tx.
I bought a Roku TV to use with Spectrum. What a waste of money for the TV
Had Spectrum up and running until this morning (1/9/21) and now nothing :-(. Once again forced to choose between what rooms we can watch tv or pay excessive fees
The Spectrum app should be made available on any device capable of streaming its content including firestick. Is it possible for a company to be any greedier.
I changed to Time Warner back when Direct TV held me in a 2 year contract and every m,onth used to raise my fees. And at first Time Warner was perfect. No contract, less fees and hassel and bought a Roku and everything was fine for awhile with my Roku streaming. The Spectrum came on the scene, changed Time Warner, and the problems began. Not only about a year in did I start having technical problems but I noticed my fees beginning to rise. Now Spectrum is so bad they make things that are working perfectly start acting up or not working at all, sending out untrained techs and engineers not understanding what in the Hell they are doing. However my Roku, inexpensive, I’ve never had a problem with. In Palm Springs we have no competition onaccount we have only Spectrum and Direct. So it’s either or. Bad and worse. We need to have a rekoning with Charter Spectrum and big greedy do anything for the Devil to get $ for their share holders and screw the customers. Unfortunately, too many business in America have adopted this greed and it will be the US’s downfall. Once I figure this out, I plan on dumping Spectrum. I hope the rest of my fellow Americans adopt the same plan. It’s one thing to make a living and be comfortable and it’s another to gouge your fellow citizens and take no prisoners. I say, screw this way of unchecked greed. Our society is no better off for it.
Still got the Spectrum TV app on all Roku devices :). If they ever delete the app from the home screen without my permission or no longer work. Then I will just watch it on my Apple TV 4K in the Basement or in my parent Master Bedroom. Not gonna pay $10 or whatever the price it for the cable box
I did not know about this until my Spectrum App asked me to sign in this morning. I tried for 30 minutes with a known working password (use dit on my computer with no problem). I assume the app must have been gorked so I decided to uninstall/reinstall it and could not find it in the App Store.
Before I knew about the issues between Spectrum and Roku, I deleted the Spectrum app from my Roku TV. I was able to call Spectrum, and as long as I had a Roku account, they were able to email me a link to add the Spectrum TV app back on to my Roku. It worked! Hope that helps anyone who is having issues right now.
What was the link spectrum gave you?
FOX NEWS CHANNEL HAS NO SOUND SINCE THIS HAPPENED!
That’s a good thing that FOX is muted. Should’ve been done years ago!
