Netflix this week plans to add eight new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup, including seven originals. (Note: Netflix labels a show an ‘original’ even if it first airs in another country, but airs first on Netflix in the United States.)

The new titles will include Gangs of New York, the Martin Scorsese-directed drama based on the real-life war among tribal factions in New York during the Civil War. Leonardo DiCaprio stars as the son of a fallen gang leader who seeks revenge on the man (Daniel Day Lewis) who killed his father.

Also notable this week: American Factory, a Netflix original documentary about a Chinese billionaire who reopens a General Motors factory in a small Ohio town. The show is executive produced by former President Barack Obama, his first of several productions he will deliver as part of an agreement with Netflix.
