Amazon Prime Adding 44 New Titles This Week

Amazon this week plans to add 44 new TV shows and movies to its Prime streaming lineup, including an original drama starring an actress whose films once dominated the box office rankings.

The new title list will include season one of Homecoming (pictured above), the much-anticipated Amazon original drama starring Julia Roberts as a caseworker who discovers a dark story behind her exit from a secret military center. This is the first TV series for Roberts who has starred in such Hollywood hits as Pretty Woman, Erin Brockovich, and Runaway Bride.

Created by Mr. Robot’s Sam Esmail (who will also direct), Homecoming’s cast also includes Bobby Canavale, Sissy Spacek, Shea Whigham and Dermot Mulroney.

RottenTomatoes.com, which tracks critical reviews, gives the show a score of 94 out of a possible 100 with 15 of 16 critics surveyed saying they liked it.

“Homecoming” becomes gleefully angsty. The half-hour episodes fly by, pulsing with jittery excitement that borders on sensory overload,” writes Ben Travers of Indiewire.

Also notably new this week: Amazon’s presentation of Thursday Night Football action between the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers;  the 1983 Oscar-winning drama, Terms of Endearment, starring Jack Nicholson, Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger; and a handful of James Bond films including Die Another Day and The Living Daylights.
