DIRECTV has unveiled its lineup of live 4K programming for June and, as usual, it’s dominated by sporting events.
(Note: DIRECTV has made no announcement regarding the broadcast of this month’s World Cup in 4K in the United States. We have seen vague references in advertising brochures that games will be available in 4K, but there’s been no official confirmation or announcement. TVAnswerman.com has asked DIRECTV for a comment and will update this story if that changes.)
For starters, the satcaster plans to air the 2018 U.S. Open Golf Tournament from June 14 through June 17 in 4K HDR (High Dynamic Range, which can deliver a more vivid and realistic picture.).
The broadcast, which will be produced by Fox, will come from the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Shinnecock Hills, New York. (DIRECTV has not revealed broadcast times as of yet.)
The 4K coverage, which will be a simulcast of the Fox and FS1 high-def broadcast, will be available on DIRECTV’s channel 105.
In addition to the U.S. Open, DIRECTV will air six Major League Baseball games this month in 4K HDR on channel 106. The games are:
6/8 – NY Yankess @ NY Mets
6/15 – Chicago Cubs @ St. Louis Cardinals
6/22 – LA Dodgers @ NY Mets
6/27 – LA Angels @ Boston Red Sox
6/29 – Boston Red Sox @ NY Yankees
In addition to the live sports, the satcaster will air four recorded concerts in 4K (but not 4K HDR) on four consecutive Saturdays at 9 p.m. ET, starting on June 9. The 4K concerts, which will be on channel 104, will be:
6/9 – Mumford & Sons Live in South Africa
6/16 – Peter Gabriel: Front To Back
6/23 – Muse
6/30 – Norah Jones
