DIRECTV will hold a free preview of the Starz channel from Friday, January 19 through Monday, January 22, the satcaster has announced.

The preview will coincide with the premiere episode of the premium channel’s new sci-fi series,  Counterpart, which stars J.K. Simmons as a lowly United Nations bureaucrat who discovers his superiors have found a parallel universe.

Counterpart will premiere on Sunday, January 21 at 8 p.m. ET on the flagship Starz channel, which is 525 on DIRECTV.

In addition to Counterpart (pictured above), all DIRECTV viewers will have free access to such original Starz shows as Power, and movies such as Saving Private Ryan, Mission Impossible and The Patriot.

DIRECTV normally charges $13.99 a month for Starz. The price includes 17 different Starz and Starz/Encore channels.

It’s likely that other pay TV operators will announce free Starz previews for next weekend as well. Consult your on-screen guides for further information.
