Showtime has cancelled the comedy, White Famous, after just one season and 10 episodes.

The show, which starred former Saturday Night Live player Jay Pharoah as a rising young comedian, was based loosely on the life of comedian Jamie Foxx who was a recurring guest star.

Showtime did not give a reason for the cancellation, but White Famous generated so-so reviews from the critics.

RottenTomatoes.com, which tracks critical reviews, gave the show a score of just 58 out of a possible 100. Fifteen of the 26 critics surveyed by the site said they liked the show.

“White Famous is a middling, masculine comedy, probably worth a second look but maybe not a third,” wrote Wenlei Mai of News.com.au.

The cancellation has to be a major disappointment for Pharoah who hoped for a big rebound after his somewhat unceremonious exit from SNL in the spring of 2017.

The season finale (and now series finale) aired last month on Showtime.
