ESPN and NBC have announced plans to stream National Football League games on mobile phones, starting with ESPN’s 2017 season playoff coverage.

Verizon, which had the exclusive rights to NFL games on mobile phones since 2010,  earlier this month signed a new deal with the league that eliminated that unique perk.

In exchange, the NFL will now permit Verizon to stream games on mobile devices on multiple platforms including Yahoo’s web site, Yahoo’s mobile app, AOL, Complex, and go90.

With the Verizon exclusive gone, ESPN and NBC have jumped in with their own mobile streaming plans for NFL games and it’s likely others such as DIRECTV Now, Sling TV and Amazon will follow suit.

The ESPN mobile streaming deal will begin the first week of January 2018 when the network broadcasts the NFL Wild Card games. ESPN will also offer live streaming of its Monday Night Football League games during the 2018 season.

NBC will stream its Sunday Night Football games on mobile phones during the 2018 season.
