Weather Nation, which offers live national and local weather updates, is now available in Sling’s News Extra add-on plan, which costs $5 a month.  However, Sling said today that both its Blue and Orange subscribers will receive a free preview of Weather Nation for six months.

News Extra, like all Sling add-on packages, requires a subscription to one of Sling’s basic tier packages, Blue or Orange.

Orange starts at $20-a-month and includes ESPN and roughly 30 cable networks. Blue costs $25-a-month, and includes more than 40 channels including live network feeds in select markets as well as several Fox channels.

Showtime Family Zone, which offers family-friendly entertainment, including movies, has been added to Sling’s Showtime Premium package, which costs $10 a month with an Orange or Blue subscription.

Sling has also launched a ‘Refer a Friend’ program. Subscribers who refer a friend to sign up for Sling will receive a $5 discount on their bill, and the friend will also receive a $5 discount on their first monthly bill.
