AT&T’s DIRECTV Now has reversed its plan to restrict use on computers and laptops to the Google Chrome browser, and will support the Safari browser as well.

The live streaming service said a month ago that it would discontinue support for Internet Explorer and Safari at the end of June. If you wanted to use DIRECTV Now on a computer, you could only use Google Chrome, AT&T announced.
However, after considerable criticism from journalists and DIRECTV Now subscribers, AT&T has quietly continued support for Safari 8+ browsers as well as Chrome. The DIRECTV Now Help section still ‘recommends’ Chrome for streaming on a computer, but Safari is still an option.
“We will no longer be supporting the Internet Explorer browser after June. DIRECTV NOW will live exclusively on your Chrome and Safari browsers when accessed via your computer,” AT&T states at its DIRECTV Now user forum.

AT&T did not provide a reason for the policy switch.
Some DIRECTV Now subscribers have said they have experienced frequent picture interruptions and login issues when using Explorer and Safari. But it should be noted that some subscribers have also complained about Chrome.
The live streaming service, which is also available on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV devices, Roku (added in May), Chromecast and various mobile devices, has struggled to deliver an error-free picture since its debut on November 30. Customers have complained of everything from incorrect blackouts to picture freezing to an inability to log in to the system.
