The Los Angeles Times reports that Demetrius Shipp Jr., who’s now starring in the Tupac Shakur film biography, All Eyez On Me, was recently a satellite TV technician for Dish Network in Southern California.

The newspaper reports that Shipp was installing dishes for the nation’s second largest satellite TV service when he heard about an open audition for the movie about the late rapper. He was always told he looked a lot like Tupac so he took a shot and submitted a videotape.

“I went to school in Long Beach and all the seniors I used to kick it with called me Pac,” the 28-year-old tells the Times.

Shipp had never acted before and, in fact, was planning to be a music producer when he was working for Dish “climbing on top of roofs and installing satellites.”

But he got the role and is now drawing strong reviews, although the movie itself has a mere 22 score at RottenTomatoes.com.

“Despite Demetrius Shipp Jr.’s fine lead performance, All Eyez on Me is mostly a surface-skimming, by-the-numbers biopic of a larger-than-life icon,” the site states.
