The show starred Allison Tolman (Fargo) as the owner of a talking dog named Martin who can’t seem to stay out of trouble.

Despite the predictable plot line, Downward Dog was a hit with the critics. RottenTomatoes.com, which tracks critical reviews, gave the show a score of 90 percent out of a possible 100. Eighteen of 20 critics surveyed by the site said they liked Downward Dog.

“A sweet little show, low key and more smile-worthy than hilarious, Downward Dog won’t be for everyone. Animal lovers (count me in that group) are likely to find it adorable,” wrote Gail Pennington of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

However, the show, which debuted in May, never caught on with the late spring/early summer audience which seems to gravitate to reality shows. Downward Dog’s live episodes never reached the five million viewer mark, and the last episode, which aired on June 20, captured just three million.

ABC will air the final two episodes of Downward Dog on Tuesday night at 10 p.m. ET.
