Amazon Prime Finally Coming to Apple TV

Apple revealed yesterday that it will add Amazon Prime Video to its Apple TV menu “later this year.”

Apple CEO Tim Cook made the announcement at the company’s annual developers’ conference in San Jose, California.  He did not provide a specific date for the addition.

The omission of Amazon Prime has been a glaring one on Apple TV, particularly in the last year or so as Amazon has ramped up its original programming lineup to compete more effectively with Netflix.

The dispute between the companies led to Amazon to stop selling the Apple TV at its commerce web site. It’s unclear if Amazon will now soon resume selling Apple TV at Amazon.com.

While Apple yesterday offered a number of other coming improvements regarding other products, the Amazon Prime partnership was the only new feature mentioned for the Apple TV.

There have been rumors that Apple is working on a 4K TV edition of the streaming device, but Cook yesterday only made a vague reference to more features possibly coming to Apple TV later in the year.
