PlayOn, the PC desktop app that enables users to send streams to Roku and other devices, has added DIRECTV Now to its list of programming options.

DIRECTV Now promised last November that it would provide an app for Roku streaming devices in the first quarter. However, the companies failed to meet their deadline and they will only say now that the app will be introduced sometime this year.
However, the PlayOn app could serve as a workaround for Roku owners until DIRECTV Now offers a real Roku app.

The PlayOn app allows you to send a Net-based video on your PC to such devices as Roku, the PlayStation, the XBox and the Wii. That would enable Roku owners (and owners of other streaming devices) to watch DIRECTV Now on their TVs.
In addition to solving the Roku problem, PlayOn offers recording and playback features. DIRECTV Now currently does not offer DVR service.

The one catch: PlayOn costs $7.99 a month, or $29.99 a year.
