Netflix this week will add 14 new TV shows and movies, including a highly-praised documentary about Jon Benet Ramsey and a controversial new series guaranteed to provoke both praise and scorn.

The new title list for the week includes Casting JonBenet, a documentary about the unsolved 1996 murder of the six-year-old beauty pageant participant in her home in Colorado.
The film, which premiered this year at the Sundance Film Festival, has captured a perfect 100 percent score at RottenTomatoes.com, which tracks critical reviews of TV shows and movies.
Steve Pond, one of 15 reviewers in the RottenTomatoes.com survey, calls Casting JonBenet a “fascinating and perplexing piece of storytelling.” Eric Kohn of IndieWire praises Casting JonBenet for steadfastly refusing to try to solve the murder, but instead allowing the viewer to ‘linger’ in the mystery.

While Casting JonBenet may be well received by most viewers, the new Netflix original series, Dear White People, is sure to find plenty of detractors. The comedy, which satirizes white racism at a mythical university, has been savaged by some conservatives who have called for a boycott of Netflix for producing the show.
However, the nation’s TV critics, who do tend to lean left, have heaped praise on the series (RottenTomatoes.com gives it a score of 91 percent.) Variety calls it “smart and necessary” while Richard Roeper says the screenplay is “tight, funny, smart and insightful.”
