Since 2013, for one week each year, Comcast has permitted video subscribers to watch On Demand episodes for free from hundreds of series on scores of different premium, broadcast network and basic cable channels such as HBO, Showtime, Starz and Cinemax.
The cable op makes the shows available regardless of whether a customer subscribes to them. In addition, the programs will be available in most cases on the cable op’s On Demand menu, its XFinity TV Go mobile app and its web site.
This year, Comcast says, Netflix’s entire library of programming, including such shows as House of Cards, The Crown, Orange Is the New Black and Stranger Things, will be available to subscribers who have X1 set-tops. The cable service recently added Netflix’s subscription offering to its list of streaming services available to customers who have X1 set-tops and Internet plans.
“We know consumers love to binge watch new shows and old favorites, and this is the biggest binge-watching event of the year with so many networks involved,” said Bill Holmes, global head of business development for Netflix. “Whether customers are eager to start Stranger Things, or catch up on Orange Is the New Black, Watchathon Week is a great time for Xfinity customers to see for themselves what the buzz is all about.”
