DIRECTV has added the outdoors channel, The Pursuit Channel, in High-Definition.
The network, which is on channel 604 on DIRECTV, airs shows of interest to enthusiasts of competitive shooting, fishing and hunting. DIRECTV is only the second major TV provider to offer Pursuit in high-def. (Verizon is the other; the smaller cable TV service, Centurylink, also offers it in HD.)
Amazon: 4K TVs For Under $1,000.
But channel officials say they expect more high-def carriage in the near future, including a cable TV provider, which the company did not name.
Amazon: Roku Ultra Streaming Player: $122
“The process to rapidly add HD homes and welcome millions of new homes to our HD signal began in 2016 when Pursuit became the only outdoor network on the Verizon platform,” said Rusty Fault, the channel’s CEO. “Switching our signal to full HD on DIRECTV Is a milestone in our drive to deliver more quality HD content to more HD homes than any other outdoor network. And we’re not through positioning Pursuit with even more HD distribution.”
Pursuit says it’s now available in more than 40 million U.S. homes.
DIRECTV says it now has more than 200 high-def channels.
