NBC Closes Door On Cloo

The Cloo Channel, which was dedicated to mystery shows, ceased operations today after nine years.

A NBC spokeswoman confirmed to this reporter that the channel, which launched as Sleuth, had officially closed.

She did not give a reason for the decision, but Cloo had been dropped in recent years by several pay TV providers including Dish and Charter.

Cloo is the latest niche channel to go dark as pay TV providers have become more reluctant to pay to keep them in their lineups.

Pivot and Al-Jazeera America have also ceased operations and the Esquire Network says it plans to go all-digital (online) in the spring.

In related news, NBC said it would reinvent the women’s lifestyle channel, Oxygen, as a true-crime channel.
