DIRECTV will show the Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament in 4K on its live 4K channel (channel 106), the satcaster has announced at its web site.
The tournament, which includes celebrity golfers as well as the pros, will take place between February 9 through February 12 at three different golf courses in Pebble Beach, which is near Carmel, California.

The courses, which offer stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Carmel Bay, are a perfect venue to showcase 4K which purports to offer four times the resolution of a 1080p HD picture.
DIRECTV will provide 4K coverage of holes 7, 17 and 18 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET each day of the tournament.

Celebrities who have said they plan to participate in this year’s tournament include Bill Murray, Justin Timberlake and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
DIRECTV recently changed the minimum package required to get its live 4K channel to Select so more subscribers could access it as well as the satcaster’s two other 4K channels, which are devoted to recurring programming and Video on Demand.

To watch 4K on DIRECTV, you must get a compatible 4K TV, a DIRECTV HD DVR54 Genie System (or above), and installation of the Genie by a DIRECTV technician.
